Annoying shutdown

Earlier this morning, I came to my machine and the following occured:
[1]Turned my monitor on [2]Gave it the "3-finger salute" [3]Entered my password [4]Pressed enter

At that the machine unceremoniously (Literally!) turned off. I noted that the power LED was flashing at about 1 per 2 seconds. Pressing either power or reset did nothing. I unplugged the machine and plugged it back in. (Much) later in the day I was able to turn it on and login with no trouble.

  • Very strange. Sounds like a dieing PSU.
  • Sounds about right, unless the plug you're using is shorting out. Try switching cords and if you can switch to a different outlet do that just to make sure.
  • I doubt it's the cord or plug extender, since the former is pretty solid and if something went wrong with the latter I'd expect alot more evidence then just the machine going into limbo.

  • Then what dragons said sounds correct. Let's just hope it doesn't happen again. Computers do really screwed up things.
  • It's happened in the past, but not in SOME time.

  • Then my guess is that it just the computer doing weird things.
