Windows 95 - Ability to Update (?)

edited March 2011 in Software
I have an old Pentium II from '98 running Windows 95B. I wondered, if a PC has, say Windows 95 (retail) before the OSR stuff, can that OS be upgraded to include things like better GPU / USB support in Win95OSR2.5 (Win95C)? Or do I have to do a clean install?

So essentially, if I have an old PC - a Pentium 133MHz or a PII.

1) I download this: Windows 95 (4.00.950) (CD)]Windows 95 A and install it on said PC

2) Can I update that OS to Windows 95 (4.03.1216 - OSR2.5)]Windows 95 OSR2.5?

--> and if I can, err, how?

  • Hmmm I think you can, if the 7zip is an untouched ISO, then yes :)

If they're the install files only. you'll not be able to update.

Check on the FTP servers if you can find some updaters for W95 :)
  • Technically what I meant was, can I update Windows 95 A to Windows 95 C (OEM ONLY) with an OEM CD? or do the OEM cd's function as restore/fresh install only?

Ah whatever I don't have time for Windows 95 right now ...
