HP Charger on Dell Laptop

edited June 2015 in Hardware
My Dell PA-12 charger failed so I can't use my Latitude D430 anymore.

But, I have an HP N193 65W charger. (I do realize dell doesn't let different brand chargers charge their laptops, but this laptop's battery doesn't hold a charge in the first place anyway)

I would look at the voltage that the Dell requires but I already recycled the PA-12 adapter, and the laptop's been so well used the power rating is completely worn off.

I was wondering if someone that has a similar Dell (D4X0 series) machine if they could compare the wattage and amperage for me?

The Power Specs of the HP Charger:

65W, 18.5V, 3.5A

  • Dell PA-12 19.5Volts 3.34Aamps 65Watts is the specs.
  • Looking it up online, your PA-12 charger had an output of 65W, 19.5V, and 3.34A. I don't think there would be much risk trying the HP charger as the voltage isn't really that much lower and it has the extra amperage to back it (if the laptop even needs it).

I am pretty sure it should work fine, may cause you issues in the long term, but doubt it.
