Spare Intel Pentium 4 6X2?

edited February 2017 in Hardware
Hello,
I have a Dell Dimension 8400 that has a Pentium 5XX processor at 3.0 GHz. I read on different forums about processor upgrades and I've come down to this: a 6XX is 64-bit and the XX2 has all of the epic features like virtualization, etc. So my question is this:

Do any of you have an affordable suggestion (not the 672, wayyyy too expensive, cheapest at $60) that I could buy?

  • The 8400 is socket LGA775 and should be able to accept almost any Pentium 4 or Pentium D processor of the same socket type. If the 672 is too expensive you can try to find other models to look for from Intel's Ark site here. They list the Pentium D 960 for ~$30 though they only seem to ship from China, and the 950 for much less. Since your current CPU most likely uses less power, you may want to look into replacing the heatsink/fan with something better too.

If you're UK this might be a good option...
