Google Chrome's "Protection"

Sometime's it seems that when I go to certain websites, and sometimes even portions of websites especially sign up pages and download pages, chrome doesn't let me go there, and says something about insecure pages do to scripts or unsupported SSl etc.

I get that Chrome is trying to protect the user, but this has happened on sites I trust, like a Dial-Up ISP I was wanting to sign up for, and even on the archive here once.

I think Chrome is getting a little overprotective of the user.

    I suppose these restrictions can be lowered/disabled in some way? The same for Firefox blocking pages to protect me from sites that contain PUPs and malware.

    Google believes they know best, better than you. So they block websites they believe will harm you, key word "believe", by protecting you from you.

    All ghacks is saying is to turn off safe browsing. Thats the idiocy of Google Chrome - all or nothing.

    Protection from phishing & ransomware - I get that. Adblock can't catch it all - neither can antivirus. But downloads - the user should have control of that separately. But you don't have that option in Chrome.

    So no turning off safe browsing is not a cure.

    As for the dial-up site, their site may have been compromised and actually serving up malware. You'd be surprised how often that happens.

    I've never been a fan of when a 3rd party blocks my websites for, unless I specifically use them for that (eg an extension or add-on of some sort). I work for a company whose website is blocked by the virtual desktop service we use. Our website is considered porn or something (it's not).

    More pertinent to your concern, I've had Chrome block websites as being "compromised" or otherwise declared dangerous, with no option that I've found other than to open their (less secure?) competitor's browser.

    I don't consider Chrome to be all that secure in the first place, so I don't know why people continue to use it.
