Trajectories for the future of software

Interesting read on the web, education, and user interfaces.

  • "Making a GUI work in a web browser is like porting DOOM to postscript and running it on your laser printer, one frame per page."

This is the sort of thing I have been saying forever. So many wrong tools for the job, and no one ever cares. Then they act all surprised when the thing falls apart when someone sneezes, it gets hacked by a 2-year old, and costs bazillions to make a simple change.

  • The web take is the standard ones I've heard, but I think the most interesting section of this rant is where it goes after the 'stratification' of user interfaces, and how possibilities in GUIs were robbed from them by ghettoization and commercialization.
