Expert Software's Personal Publisher is a rudimentary (crude), desktop publishing program. It does not use a graphical user interface, more closely resembling a document processing program. It was sold as a cheap low-end "budget" title - the sort of thing one might find on the shelf at a department store.

    Rather than crude, it looks like a TeX clone. This method of typesetting has its benefits, like structured and semantic formatting instead of spontaneous choice of font variants and measures; or fully automatic, typographically correct typesetting without user knowledge. Therefore TeX was the tool of choice for scientific documents and books.
