Fascinating. Note especially how NT initially gained, then fell way down the list once Windows 98 and Windows XP came out.

Windows XP SP 3 is good for me. I still use it every day, albeit in a VM.

XP is literally NT 5.1. So XP would have been a direct replacement for NT 4 systems.
No doubt some NT 4 systems were replaced by 98 if people needed DirectX or gaming related stuff that NT 4 wasn't getting.
Windows ME didn't make the list at all?

Here's a list that includes Me. But look how quickly it fell off the list and how Windows 2000 dominated until XP overwhelmed everything.

Ah yes Windows Me I've been hearing a lot of people installing it lately due to its more extensive driver support including HD Audio, Network, and USB.
