WinWiki?

edited November 2004 in Software
I've got about 50 megs of space, unlimited MySQL databases, and a lot of other stuff (free), so, I've got an idea...a Wiki for WinWorld! It would be a great community resource, it's the logical extension...so, what do you think?

  • You know that might be an interesting idea... What's the condition of this? I mean like who'se hosting it, what upload, speed, is it going to be free for awhile...

  • Yup, that's an excellent idea...
But I cannot even pretend how it will be like...
  • My account is hosted on ChromeHost, which gives an ip address and requires you to get a free redirect like uni.cc. It seems relatively fast and will probably be free for some time to come, but they're not accepting new signups currently.
  • Can't wait to see it...
  • It might be worth trying if you can do it free...

http://www.mediawiki.org/ is my vote for the softend.

  • Yeah, that was my idea. They do, however, have this pretty cool setup called Fantastico, which can automatically install a bunch of PHP stuff. They offer PhpWiki and TikiWiki.
  • Do you think it's possible to get MediaWiki installed manually, or is that out of the question?

    -Q
  • I could probably do it, it looks pretty simple.
  • Give it a try if you might. This sounds like the beginning of something good!

  • GAH it keeps 404ing on me.

    http://209.67.220.122/wiki (bypassing uni.cc)
  • Not Found
The requested URL /wiki was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    Apache/1.3.31 Server at ltsv-383 Port 80

    You sure it's configed right? I mean "ltsv-282' ?

    -Q
  • It should be. But other people's sites list the server as being at there (i.e. evolutionspot.uni.cc) instead of something like that.
  • I got error 404... :(
  • Any luck on this?

  • how bout a name like wikiworld.org?
  • That sounds like we're a shop & showroom for different wikis (And there's a WikiWorld @ wikiworld.com already). How about wiki.winworld.vze.com, like the forum is now?

    -Q
  • I reregistered the uni.cc domain. ChromeHost didn't make it very clear that I had to set it up for DNS redirection, so I canceled but didn't find anything else useful. Also, they're real nice, just ask for more space or bandwidth in the forums and it's done.

Time to customize and add info.
  • Excellent! I've registered and created the 1st page.
