  • Steve - You have Janus?
  • On a CD somewhere with Chicago if I can find it.
  • What is Janus? Is it NT 3.1 pre-alpha?
  • Windows 3.0/3.1, I forget which. An NT 3.1 alpha would be interesting.
  • Someone has it... don't remember who exactly
  • I've seen (possibly faked?) NT 3.1 Beta screenshots. I'd LOVE to have a NT 3.1 beta on WinWorld, it would be a significant "scoop".

    -Q
  • Well, I heard there was NT 3.1 Pre-Alpha dated back to 1990. Have you seen something like?
  • OS/2?

    Damn...lots of OSes...notes:

    - There may have been a retail NT 3.0
    - Nobody has been able to find a complete Janus Beta 1, disk 2 is being recreated
    - Floppy OSR2?
    - Retail OSR2? (95D)
    - Unknown build number 95E?
    - Windows 1.00 was recalled due to a severe bug
    - 0.99 apparently did exist, was a very rare beta
    - NT 3.1 had server and AS?
    - NT 3.55 - limited retail
    - NT4 had AS?
    - What's with all these extra builds after retail, anyway?
    - NT 4.5? There's something new
    - Ever heard of Windows 2000 Cluster Server?
    - Neptune 5000 must be the holy grail of beta collecting (besides janus disk 2)
    - XP 5.1.2526 plays much better in Q3 than any other build :P
    - They must have been working on Whistler/XP since before Win2k (or before dec. 1999, when 2k went RTM)
    - Hasn't been updated in a while, only goes up to Longhorn 4051
    - Very incomplete dates
  • Unknown build number 95E?

    what happened to 95D?
  • Interesting.
    So, there was NT 3.0...
What are xp builds later than 2600?
    0.99? I thought that was a fake...

So, I think this checklist arouses more questions than we had before.

That was the retail OSR2 (tho the list should say that OSR2 are OEM only)
  • OSR2 was b and c
  • Um, did you actually read the list? ;)
  • /me reads list.....

    hmmm....
Keyboard arrows now function in this release

    LOL
  • OMFG! 2000 for AlphA!!

NT 3.55, Windows 3.22... There are some rare softs out there that I would lovvve to find ::D!!!!!

    -Q
  • 2000 had an Alpha edition until Compaq dropped support.
  • I bet that nearly a half of that list could possibly be a fake...
  • I suppose if you talk to/bribe the right people you can get any info....
  • So they KNOW that ppl have these rare versions, but why doesn't anyone else have them? Who are these ppl with things like "NT 3.55", "Neptune 5000", "Windows .99" and so forth?

    -Q
  • They are special Microsoft's beta testers, and they signed a contract they won't share these OSes...
  • Hmm, you'd think someone'd break it sooner or later. I guess it's just waiting.

    -Q
  • I still think that it can be a fake

This appears to be a list of the versions confirmed to exist.

That seems closer to truth... No NT 3.52's and so on...
  • I think Fish has a more updated version of that.

    -Q
  • Fish's version dates back to 06/08/03, and that is obviously newer
  • Hmm, I seemed to remember a higher version number on his...

    -Q
  • Possibly I'm wrong...
