NT4.0 FAT32 Support 9x/DOS NTFS Support

  Actually, SomeGuy from OSBA managed to boot NT4 on a FAT32 partition with 2000's NTLDR and a FAT32 read/write driver.

  Ok... 4GB partition. NT can use it's own FAT16 to create 4GB partitions. Why it can go past 2GB with FAT16 I don't know.

  NT uses FAT32.

  Wrong. To achieve 4GB partitions with FAT, it uses a special cluster size that I don't recall offhand.

  Dude, when you pick the option in NT setup to format it as FAT it formats it as FAT32. Why would it format as FAT16? WHY?

  I assume you mean Windows NT 4? It doesn't do FAT32. If you're applying the term NT to NT-based OSes (like 2000 and XP) then yeah, it formats as FAT32. (but for some reason, if you create an unformatted partition with pqmagic, it will format as FAT)

  NT 4.0 and below have no native support for FAT32. They use a different cluster size allowing you to partiton 4GB, but obviously it isn't a prime for preformance.

  To support > 4GB FAT partitions using 128k or 256k clusters, the drives must use > 512 byte sectors.

  No no, what we meant is.... NT can format a 4GB hard drive with FAT16 by itself, without the need of a third party driver. Ok, formatting a 20GB hard drive with FAT32 is another story, but even so, using NTFS instead of FAT32 would be nicer for NT. However... I suppose if you have a 98 bootdisk or something, it will be able to access the drive. Though it might just be wiser to get the NTFS read/write support added to a bootdisk, then to install an OS on a hard drive with a file system it doesn't natively support.

  Problem is, NTFSDOS needs like 3 disks, so a boot CD would be a nice solution.

  Ah... well in that case... a boot cd would be a nice solution, and.. it would leave you with lots of room for ghost programs or additional drivers you may need.

  I have NTFS DOS Pro with all the necessary files if anyone wants it, but it is on my computer which will not be available to me for a few days.
