Please Help

I open the Control Panel and I click Add/Remove Programs. I want to remove some unneeded components from Windows XP, so I click the Add/Remove Windows Components button. It says Windows XP Setup - Please wait... then that window disappears and nothing opened. I'm stumped. It doesn't open on any account on my computer. I even tried typing setup.exe in the Run dialog. Nothing. Please help me find out what is wrong. Thanks.

    Try replacing setup.exe with the original from your CD, the application may be broken.

    Ok. I ran it and restarted my computer. It didn't work. It is still not working.

    So far, replacing the file from the CD and using the Windows File Protection method did not work. I'm running out of options.
