Dual Channel Memory

edited April 2005 in Hardware
I have a motherboard with Dual Channel Memory Slots at DDR400. I have a 512MB Stick in One Slot and thats it.

Firstly could someone explain how this dual channel stuff works and what advantages it offers etc and what benefit would i find adding another stick of 512MB apart from having more ram.

Thanks
Richard

  • It gives you double the memory bandwidth. If I were you I'd swap the 512MB stick for two 256MB sticks, or just buy another 512MB stick.
  • As far as I know it only works if the memory is inserted into certain slots

  • I didn't know Intel's had dual channel, and yeh.... Prescott LOL
  • To be quite honest I like the Prescott cores. Not had any problems with them and havent received any processor is too hot warnings either.
