Windows XP updates no longer available
I can't seem to find the any of the Windows XP stand alone service pack installers on microsoft.com anymore. I need the updates to run software that I don't want to run this software on wine because it's huge. Help?

http://windowsarchives.com/updates/ is your friend. It has a full collection of Windows 2000 and semi-recent (2008-2014) XP updates, including XP SP3.

When I try to install the SP3 update from the Microsoft server I hit the same roadblock every time where I'll see a popup that says the service pack installed is lower than the minimum required for SP3 which is SP1. Does M$ still host SP1? All I saw on the windowsarchives was KB numbered updates and SP3.

Unfortunately the only full installer is for the Hong Kong (Cantonese) version; other languages have to make do with "express" (aka web) installers which will be useless when M$ takes SP1 off their servers (if they haven't already). Also it's not a prudent idea to put SP0 on the web these days unless you have a really good aftermarket firewall.
Here's an offline installer for XP SP1a English:
