gcc wont create executables

whenever i try to build anything, dont matter what it is, i get:

checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables.

now what can i do about this? any ideas?

EDIT: It used to work, it was until i decided to recompile apache, and then it didnt work and now it wont work for anything.

Hhhhmm, try looking in the system config file under /etc and see if theres a entry for GCC. Or you can just go ahead and reinstall GCC though the CD.
