freeDB is no more
This news is a little late, but the freedb.org service is no longer active. Here's a screenshot of the website, for when it finally dies:
It's a shame, a ton of software used for ripping and cataloging Compact Discs just broke. I even had the DNS set on my home server so that legacy software (like Winamp 2.x) would work when trying to query the old CDDB for data, since they used the same protocol.
They do currently have the entire database and the software available for download. I'm going to try to set up a local server so my software can still work: ftp.freedb.org/pub/freedb/
