Odd Windows 3.0 Issue

So, I'm running Windows 3.00a under 86box and I get this error when trying to run the DOS Prompt:


I'm also getting the issue from the occasional application (the installer for Lotus Ami Pro 1.2B for one example). Anyone know what's causing this?

    Well, the setup for Lotus Ami Pro 1.2B is a DOS program. Can you run any DOS programs from inside Windows 3.0?

    Check to see if you have any stray copies of a "command.com" or "command.exe". The DOSBox substitute command.com should be able to run inside Windows 3.0, it does on older versions anyway. For some reason, it thinks command.com is a Windows binary.

    So it is! I forgot most of the early programs didn't have a GUI installer.

    Can you run any DOS programs from inside Windows 3.0?

    Doesn't look like it. I tried Autodesk Animator Pro and that failed the same way.

    I had one in C:\DOS as well as root, but after deleting that one, I still get the same issue.
