[offer] Framework II v1.1 (SCP, IMZ, 360K)

Comments

  • Thanks very much.
Unfortunately System 1 Disk is modified.
(FW.EXE is modified after you install this.)
  • During installation an owner's name and a serial number is stored in FW.EXE. Starting from version II onwards Framework used serialization instead of floppy copy protection.
  • @ibmpc5150 is it also modified on system 1 backup ?
  • @callmejack

Well, there is no system 1 backup disk on your file.
Would you please check your System 1 backup disk?
  • Oh sorry, I mixed up with FW II v 1.0 for which I have the system backup
  • I tried to restore the System 1 disk. You can find the result here:

    hampa.ch/pub/pce/misc/fw2-1.1-system-1-restored.zip

The procedure that ID.EXE does, which I tried to undo as best as I could is
    1. read the serial number from FW.SER
    2. decrypt the first 4096 bytes of FW.LOD
    3. scan the rest of FW.LOD for a 4 byte marker and insert the serial number behind it
    4. rename FW.LOD to FW.EXE
    5. fill in personalization information in FW.EXE
    6. delete FW.BAT, FW.SER, ID.EXE and SIGNON.COM
The decrypting and scanning of FW.LOD is done in-place and the entire file is read and written back in the process.

I don't know exactly what the personalization information looks like in the original file. Apart from that I think that this disk is pretty close to original.
  • @hampa thanks very much !
  • @hanpa

    Nice to meet you again.

    I've checked your restored image.
I think this procedureseems to be similar to Lotus 1-2-3 Release 2.2

Lotus 1-2-3 Release 2.2 has disk copy protection.
But once user install (setup or register) the problem, copy protected track is removed.

I wonder original untouched Framework II v1.1 has copy protected track.

It is similar, except for the decrypting part. I have not seen this with any other product so far.

I don't think so. There is no indication that any such track is removed (or checked, for that matter). Also, there's the fact that the program runs (an can be installed) from a regular disk.
  • At a risk of muddying the waters, I have these three Framework II 1.1 disks. However, I don't think they belong to the same set as the original poster's disks. Reason: see id.exe on System 1.

I don't know if it was ever modified or not. All the same, might be interesting.

Ok, except disk copy protected track, this seems to be similar to Lotus 1-2-3 R2.2.
