Windows A/V department needs to stop with the Everclear.
When I install my Micro Innovations IC200C Webcam, I also get prompted to install:
Microsoft Streaming Clock Proxy
Microsoft Streaming Quality Manager Proxy
Microsoft Streaming Service Proxy
Closed Caption Decoder
NABTS/FEC VBI Codec
World Standard Teletext Codec
BDA Slip De-Framer
BDA IPSink
Microsoft TV/Video Connection
Microsoft Streaming Tee/Sink-to-Sink Converter (Twice!)
When I install drivers for my VIA AC97 PCI (Integrated) Sound, The following show up:
Microsoft Kernel System Audio Device
Microsoft Kernel DRM Audio Descrambler (!!!)
Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer
Microsoft Kernel Acoustic Echo Canceller
Microsoft Kernel GS Wavetable Synthesizer
Microsoft Kernel DLS Synthesizer
Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver
Microsoft Kernel Audio Splitter
All were listed as 'MEDIA' when that stpuid thing in the taskbar said "Found New Hardware!".
And to top it all off, when Microsoft supplied its own drivers for said devices (They autolocated the drivers and I didn't have any nonMS CDs/Floppies in any drives!) they weren't signed!
-Q
PS. I installed all except the DRM one.

That would be why you moved everything over to Linux...
That's what SwB/SB-S&B/NOD32/Firefox is for
