Recovering floppy disks with an oscilloscope

There is a very interesting write-up about recovering data from a floppy disk by getting down to the analog level on a floppy drive. It turns out by using advanced software based signal filtering techniques it can read data that a floppy drive's filtering hardware can't.

Be sure to check out the audio wave file (about halfway down the page) of a floppy track slowed down so you can hear it. It sounds very much like cassette tape software. It's really not that different, when you think about it.
