OFFER! - NewStyle AXS 3.0b4 Win32 Quite Alluring OT Music Tracker>>>
Since I am well into a tune in this old tracker I figured I'd share some of what I have learned so far-
NewStyle AXS is an old DOS tracker that was a commercial product from some Dutch Devs in the 90s...They made it into windows (barely) then gave it out for free starting in 2001...
I always found it had an alluring GUI that is like a large screenmate & I really like its anti-aliased synth which is capable of producing a large variety of sound & sounds 'right on' in my ears..
It also has 'smart patterns' which is cool & evidently Arguru thought so too as he implemented smart patterns into Noisetrekker which are STILL here today in Protrekkr...
Notice the built-in HELP right on the GUI...LOL... I hafta use a screen magnifier on that one...
Anyways it do have a few issues but NONE are show stoppers...Since I am about 25% into a serious tune in it I figure I will post what I find out so far quite a bit...
I use XP SP3 on most everything...
FIRST....VERY STABLE!...No crashes at all, no hangs very efficient on directsound your machine won't even know it's running...This is very tight coded 352 KB EXE!!...It has a few other files but STILL everything below 400 KB!
SECOND...And this is a BIG ONE!...AXS will absorb any kinda 16 bit WAV but I spent hours trying to figure out why it would not save the samples in the song file, I thought there was an issue with my samples but NO!...If you do not use a sample in a song it will be discarded upon save...So when I added samples after this epiphany I made Block 000 a junk block pressing every sample note in the sampler...You ALSO have to do this with a tuned sample that you press 'FILL OCTAVE' you have to play every note of the octave in the junk block...When done you just mute all the tracks of the junk block, remove from sequencer area...
THEN you can save your song file & will all be intact next opening...I found a bit on this in the on-GUI help AFTER the fact...
THIRDLY....In the beginning testing WAV render for function - Testing WAV Render found that manual is useless as manual is updated version '2' & not applicable. But the WAV Render did not work for me but the Disc Streaming did. Open the 'setup' button & choose the 'RenderToDisc' option, Open your tune AND open your C root directory, Now press 'play' & in a few seconds you should see 'test.wav' show up on C root dir. Let tune play & shut off right after it ends, rename WAV & take into editor & trim off fat...
Those are the big ones so far, there is a bit of an issue with storing presets as the light does not flash like its supposed to but you just give the button a second click & it saves OK, having trouble renaming presets, Don't worry if you screw up as it only saves/overwrites bank if you do so down in the files area...
Also the whole DRM Drumkit open/save don't work...It saves a zero-byte file & it won't open an original DRM drumkit so saving into an AXS song is your goal...
Pretty much it so far...I haven't tried hooking up a MIDI controller yet just doing oldskool from QWERTY, You can apparently do some live recording of automation haven't tried yet...I have entered commands & interpolated all is well there with knobs-sliders animating as expected...
It does not seem to have the ability to fade-in then fade-out a tune but who cares? After WAV export I will simply do that in my audio editor...There is a command for tempo change but haven't tried yet...
You can get it from here-
https://web.archive.org/web/20030527131006/http://www.resolutionaudio.nl/
Plus some extra stuff as well...
Here's the Sonic Spot page from 1999 when it was a commercial DOS product... ($60.00)...

Anybody else wishes to try their hand just ask if you get baffled or waylayed right here on the thread...

AXS has fixed block size of 64 steps...Foe ME this was a downer as I often incorporate triplets or 3/4 'feel' into 4/4 compositions...BUTT!...You can utilize a close fake by INCREASING BPM (You see mine in image is at 250) to increase resolution enough for close fakery...Splitting the 64 steps into 3 gives 21.33333333> so going down 2 more times gives you 5 or 6 steps for a 'close' triplet...For a fast attack instrument use 6 for a slow use 5...Then for your boring 4/4 use 4/8/16/32...
The tune I am doing now has triplet garbage going all the way through it...It won't fool Hans Zimmer I am sure he would walk up & backhand me retorting "Your triplets are quite terrible!!" then be would pick me up & throw me in a ditch & call me "Bitch!!"...But for the usual Desktop Dabbling Tracker Troglodyte there should be NO quarrel or query....

Best to watch in fullscreen mode...
Synoptic Virtual Waves 2.2 & extra SYN files>>>
Virtual Waves only pukes out mono files but they use up little space, are just fine in AXS & the modular vastness of VW makes for very useful sounds, pads, FX, chords, whatever... Of course you could use them elsewhere too...
GUI-
The many modules of VW-
A release from 1998 it's older than AXS!! (The windows version that is)

Or use these in the Fruity 2.54 as well these are samples from the wayback machine DIRECT LINKS, no having to view game trailers or hentai porn or having to 'sign up' or 'lick me' on facebook or anything else...
These be some decent drum or percs from the past that were free or demo paks many are kontakt 2 (or other format) but have the WAV files loose in a separate folder all links & content tested by me for.....PURITY!

-If they act strange in AXS it's NOT your controller keyboard....
I have 4 & they all act a bit different in AXS...NONE will play the sampler sector only the synth area. My Korg NanoKontrol plays synths fine with velocity sens working good, pitch bend not functional maybe it needs command setup or you could just map it to pitch envelope knob. Mod wheel modulates filter cutoff but resets it to zero not 'where it was before' however first slider is auto-mapped to same cutoff...Other synth parameters are 'auto-mapped' to other sliders automatically & these can be recorded in realtime if wished...
Arturia MiniLab is very similar to above only difference is DIFFERENT parameters are assigned to rotary knobs by default...
Korg nanoKEY works but not velocity sens & there are no sliders-knobs...Octave & sustain buttons work & modulation button but it is a crap up-down for a hit button. Might be different if I had driver for it installed but not yet on this machine...
M-Audio Oxygen 8 v2 have not tried yet as it is not 'handy'...
So for most part looks like good to play out synth parts WITH velocity & have pre-assigned or assignable controls to record in hardware fashion for realtime automation...
AXS is capable of more potential but I think I gave it a good 'rogering'...Used 4 instances of internal synth with plenty of automation & samples of course...
Track name is Pulp Friction...PULP = a mish-mash of tracker 'sketches'. FRICTION = Not everybody is gonna like it...
Cool for long sustains AXS will keep note on block after block (synth) till a note-off command is seen.
Fun stuff...Give it a try... Other than giving the track a fast fade-out & conversion to MP3 I have done nothing else to it-
Most these of a 'High-Contrast' theme...Just replace the 3 GIFs in the directory...
Have included a copy of AXS for back-up...No need to just backup the GIFs when entire frickin' program is SO SMALL!!!...

Completed a song starter recently which is Music Man Slap Bass & Scarbee A-200 Song Start AXS...The Slap Bass has a sample for every note so is pretty good quality. The A-200 EP has 4 samples per octave so not bad either...
Have included a short 'Jingle' Strange Funk Tune called 'Kernel Klink' that just uses the sampled instruments not the Synth...
You can also listen here to see what kind of sounds the samples evoke-

One thing I have discovered is that AXS NEVER crashes, no matter the sample bitrate, size or other...AMAZING!
I could never do a jazz album, no patience, I'd go crazy...
Jazz great Quincy Jones once said that making an album was like polishing a bus with a toothbrush...And I GET THE POINT clearly...
However I am satisfied to 'scuff' a subaru with a welder's wire brush!
