OFFER!!!... Cubase VST24 3.70 (1999) & Addons-Plugz - Dive Into The Olden & The Arcane>>>

Seems working well on XP... Just does not like other apps being called forward especially whilst playing & even more if it happens to be a DX app. Most of the time if you first stop transport THEN do something outside of Cubase, then come back & resume it's better for the cosmos...

That was the only real problem encountered>>>

Addons include demo song, all PDFs & some library garbage & a few others... The whole thing take up little space & being so old it's easier to figger out how to use...

All the plugins I used worked great, of course I know what should work & what not to try. Forget synthedit crap it had better be old quality plugs... For FX the DX plugs all worked well. Leave it's OWN plug folder & try one at a time if you are attempting to try newish plugs...

I have included some plugz some I have tested the others are best guess should be just fine...

Still capable olden DAW & a trip to use that's for sure & a delight for the windows 98 crowd as well...

  • Even though these VSTWise videos cover Cubase VST32 5.1 they are mostly good for this version very similar... Good Stuffs-

Been using this particular version recently... Really like the simple workflow also sounds pretty good as well...

Have installed on several machines each one a different crap-shoot... You see, If you have too many rewires installed it can bugger things up as even if you are not using any rewires the available hook-ups take up mixer space so you might not have ANY when engaging your first VSTi you may get-

So you are pretty much screwed but I have found that compatibility modes help this out... On another machine I installed & it was crashing (XP SP3) upon start so I changed compat mode to windows 98, no more crash but alas rewires taking up all mixer channels so then I tried windows 95 compat which disabled all rewire function but now everything works...

Strangely on THIS machine, my internet machine same OS I get limited rewires not filling up all channels & first is Rebirth so I can run Rebirth in it using as many rewires Rebirth has to offer...

Why am I telling all this? Well I plan on uploading again with more stuff, trying to make it as 'Steinberg-ish' as possible with many Steinberg plugs a good number from somewhat later editions...

So might as well get the 'gotcha' info out... And NO this does not seem to work with 5.1 nor SX1 which do not respond in compat mode like 3.70 plus they direct hook shared VST folder bad news as they will never pass main plugs folder...

In fact it was SX 3 that FINALLY eliminated the rewire problem & would do a full scan of main plugs directory...

This VST24 3.70 has its OWN plug directory doesn't try looking anywhere else, much funner to use...Capable of large sound on very cheap CPU-RAM unlike SX3... I like using Kontakt2 loading here 3 HiQuality homemade SF2 with different Kontakt FXs on each soundfont as well as pannings & such-

It also passes the 'Triad' of Freeware power plugs... Crystal/Synth1/Oatmeal all work good...

All for now back to testing out & compiling another archive>>>

OK back still got 9 hours on the edit...

Some infographics on some items to be included... I already had D'Cota in my main plugs folder but copying to 3.70 plugs folder did not work so just installed to there then it ran fine>>>

  • Cracking on...

Cubase 3.70 has some OT import options like Mixman TRK tracks which are like simplistic REX files-

REX works well but it has to be REX not RX2... REX is just an earlier mono form of RX2 which are stereo... STILL this means having to bring into an app an RX2, test listening then processing to mono then exporting groove & slices to REX...

Yeah, sounds simple enough but when you have to do it hundreds of times or way more then many hours as OT REX files are hard to find, most were crappy done anyway..

However they sound just fine in it & there's some editing one can do to any individual slice in Cubase...

Haven't tried the MIDI Import/Export yet I doubt there will be any problem with that...

Taking a break from converting RX2 to REX here's some tested plugs to be included-

A1 from Cubase SX1 which is amazing synth especially if you weigh that it's only a 219 KB DLL... Embracer pretty cool too-

Now here we have the Steinberg Model-E, not the best synth but great for hysterical porpoises if nothing else... Waldorf Attack great Drum Synth even today-

    Adding on here...

Here's 4 more I won't be including that work well in Cubase 3.7 but YOU can grab them yourself-

PLEX you can get here download the original large then overwrite with the 2.0.2... Do not grab the 64bit>>>

SoHa Sonata very nice I think it was commercial in the very beginning... There are BANKS on another page there-

    http://www.sohasound.com/sonata.php

These are direct links to older versions that work in Cubase 3.7=

  • Figured I'd better make a test tune & render out & all that... Nothing serious...

So I made a short tune this morning using just 3 REX tracks & a few FX, no automation yet still fumbling around on the mixers a bit...

Didn't know what to name it so I just used Never A Straight Answer (NASA)-

    You can find it here-

    https://alonetone.com/TalkOrBell/tracks/never-a-straight-answer

The perc track is RX2 converted to REX stuff the Guitar & Bass are my own creation then 'REXified' & Bass played with slices some...

    Here's the visual-

Only problem encountered was a sometimes stalling scrub line on playback, appears less problematic when zoomed in & if you got a REX segment open doesn't seem to happen at all... No worries...
  • Still working on this...

Looks like most my problem issues went away when changing compat to windows 98/ME on the EXE...

Also happy to report that 'quality' synthedit plugs seem to work fine like Arppe2600va-

    You can get Arppe2600va HERE-

    http://glenstegner.com/softsynths.html

    It is quite good freebie...

Even though haven't tested them all (yet?) looks like all the 'made free' Audio Damage plugs work well in Cubase 3.70-

    You can get those here-

    https://www.audiodamage.com/pages/free-and-legacy

For me I mostly UniExtract the EXEs then take the bare DLL out rather than running a buncha installers...
  • nice, great old VST resource!
  • Sure, Well there's more...

Happy to note that the UGO plugs are working in this old Cubase just fine... They are previously commercial then made free higher-end 'synthedits'...

Tested M-Theory, Rez3, Ironhead & Metallurgy (FX) those are my favs with M-Theory & Rez3 being excellent arping synths with fresh sound as well...

    Can be had from here-

    https://web.archive.org/web/20201111213700/https://ugoaudio.com/index.php/vst-plugins

Also good are the Whitelabel VSTs... At least as far as those with simple GUIs the TENQ with the big OpenGL GUI no way... They are previously commercial then made free higher-end 'synthedits' as well...

    From HERE-

    http://dazdisley.co.uk/#!/page:./whiteLABEL/|

AND to top off even though I only tested ONE Psychic Modulation plug I feel that most of those should work as well-

    https://archive.org/details/PMLegacyPlugins

  • checking out the old apps is fun but sometimes can get a bit too much and I can't keep up
But with VST's is just crazy the amount of them to check out!

I was using makeing waves for VST's but I dont like how it has to convert them, so I'm thinking of moving to something else, I liked tracktion2 so I'll check that out again.

Would you happen to have any recommendation for a retro gaming system, chip tune VST?
  • edited June 19
Yes, there are a billion of them out there... I concentrate only on 32bit plugs with older the better, that puts it at a half-billion...

retro gaming VSTi?... Well Plogue had something along those lines but actually you are barking up the wrong tree for chiptunes as it is firmly in the tracker genre...

I hear that Furnace is a top one-

    https://tildearrow.org/furnace/

    It's free-open..

DefleMask is supposed to be a goodie as well

    https://www.deflemask.com/

Woolyss has a long listing of them-

    https://woolyss.com/chipmusic-chiptrackers.php

Or you could check the regular tracker listing some 'cross over'

    https://woolyss.com/tracking-trackers.php
  • Ah... not a big fan of trackers, but they look cool... I tried out brotracker.. not bad.

    I'll test out Furnace.
DefleMask is $10 but the SEGA 16bit is free, like a demo... mahh

Thanks for the woolyss link, there's VSTi (instruments) here, which is what I was after.
    https://woolyss.com/chipmusic-plugins.php

And OpenMPT  I think I'll use that for VSTi
    https://openmpt.org/

So, I just realized what I was after wasn't so much a VSTi, but something like sound generators... Virtual Waves, fx2

OK then, a realization of chiptune realities... SO COMPLEX!

    Apparently MANWE thought Chiptunes Suxx-

    Done is Schism Tracker BTW...

Also it looks as if older DefleMask from 2012 free here-

    http://modland.com/pub/software/trackers/Windows/DefleMask/

    Here's another 'Welcome, Space Invaders'

Sorry, had browser crash on posting so it made new post rather than addon....

MANWE pretty impressive tracker expert here's a 1 channel Impulse tracker tune-

  • edited June 21
    impressive videos!
The last one in one channel is pretty good!

I'll have to check out Schism Tracker!
  • edited June 21
Yeah, Schism is based on the infamous Impulse Tracker but goes beyond it as well... Everytime I hear Manwe's music I wanna pick that tracker UP!... Here's another goody-

You may notice there's a natural 'finger feel' in Schism, it's not an accident...

You should check out more of manwe's stuff he does video game stuff, demoscene stuff, etc... BTW here's link for Schism Manual-

    http://forum.old-dos.ru/download/file.php?id=1643

    Also a bit more info-

    https://web.archive.org/web/20170223165955/dexperix.net/articles/track-music/schism-intro+blp+en.html

OK, Back, I just got blown away... This video only has been on Manwe's channel a year a compo of Schism tunes probably 90%... Some of the mind-blowing tunes are done by 12-14 year olds! Man they must have great wheaties in Russia... It's long but you'll hate when it ends, narration betwixt tunes is in Russian just turn on the English CCs & watch, listen whilst slowly consuming a cardboard pizza-

  • Cool thanks

    I downloaded the latest version,
    https://schismtracker.org/

It's a shame they dont support older platforms... it's opensourced and they generally tend to push to remove the old tech because they dont want to maintain it.

I dont know if I'll use it, I just wanted to see how it is as a sound/instrument generator.

Yeah, It's quite oldskool operation, I did find a NES VSTi, judging by visual clues it's been made in synthmaker-

    https://www.mattmontag.com/projects-page/nintendo-vst

I'm hoping you don't look like anybody in this French Chiptune InfoVideo

    ftp://ftp.scene.org/pub/resources/media/video/tracks_chiptunes_divx5_french.avi

Pretty much thought I'd seen everything weird... These people are too gangly, skinny with skin you can practically see through...

They need to eat at least a few meals with NUTRITION, take some vitamins & go out & get some sun>>>

Here's kinda a nice chiptune tracker tried it out pretty easy to use-

    https://kometbomb.github.io/klystrack/
  • edited June 23
I tried that NES VSTi but I couldn't get it it working, I guess it's too new.

    Hahahaha

klystrack looks cool, and they give you the code to embed their format... very nice!
  • OK Folks time to finish up on this thread...

Here is a GIF of included plugs... NOTHING in this entire package needs keygenned the D'Cota Synth has one with it but it is NOT needed-

Some plugs are from later version of Cubase...

Also there's Steinberg Recycle 1.71 which is needed to change a WAV to a REX & it has to be REX not RX2

I included 240 MB of REX I had converted mostly from RX2... The only real difference is that RX2 is stereo whilst REX is mono...

Using in XP it's pretty good once I changed compat setting to windows 98 then all pretty dope also very cool to be able to use rewire with rebirth... Has step recording & I like the way it's configured intelligently...

This would've been my choice back in 1999 no question... it is STILL good now no problem jamming out on vintage JX-16 or JunoX2 very nice cool older vintage soft synth sounds...

Certainly the most EFFICIENT Cubase I've ever used with simple workflow, actually my favorite cubase version of them all...
