Viewing *.wri files on later versions of Windows

I do not know if later Microsoft Word versions do. For me - doesn't matter - don't have it installed.
Microsoft hammered on developers to use WRITE format for their documents, then dropped it from 7 and newer.
This small proggy was/is, and for the near future at least, will be one of my favorites.

There is actually another "wri, rtf, txt and possibly others" text editor for modern windows versions, that is, of course, Cetus CWordpad. What I heard from it, Word 97 Documents will display random characters on CWordPad,

It's certainly compatible with Windows XP and vista since it was released in 2004, so you will likely be good setting the compatiblity to Windows XP, or possibly vista.

But here's a screenshot of a viewing of the PRINTERS.wri Write file from windows 3.11 For Workgroups on <<Windows 11 maybe?>>:

Cetus CWordpad can only view tables already in the document, If you wanna create a table, good luck on an windows 3.1 (Virtual) Machine.
Like you see, it's a bunch of repeating gibberish.
As long as you want to view/edit a generic .wri file, it should work.
