What's the point of Offer & Requests?

Each time I go there, all I see are mostly posts with zero comments - Its quite rare to see an actually active offer on there. Or is the offer and requests page there, so that database storage doesn't get wasted (The software is already on something like mega.nz or Dropbox, what is the point of reuploading?)

A few inactive things on the category as of writing:
Microsoft Office 95 - English Floppy disk set
Microsoft Word 6.0a - Hebrew
Microsoft Excel 2.0 (1987) - English
Borland Turbo Pascal for Windows 1.0 (1991)
(Everything above is an offer, and not a request.)

Comments

  • Well, as for me the point is that I visit this forum section at least once a week to get quick information about the files/programs that turned up recently.
  • The point is to bring attention to any newly archived or unearthed archives that might be useful or interesting. In many cases they might eventually get added to the WinWorld archive.

Comments are not always needed. Just people grabbing the files and looking at them. If there is an issue with an archive or if someone has additional information, then the option is there to comment.

I'll play Mr Obvious here (Someguy's answer is perfect):

    - mega.nz, dropbox etc - definitel NOT "permanent" - and if there isn't a forum section devoted to such things - then how is anyone to know these have been uploaded elsewhere from WW?

    - In a perpetual war between publishers and enthusiasts that create unexpected takedowns - redundancy is vital.

    - WW is unique among all other storage providers in that it's (but donations matter!) no password is required EVER to access the site, the archive, the archive contents. I could be wrong on accessing the files - its been a long, long time since I ever downloaded from WW without also being already logged in. So other than that - yeah.

    - It's a fact - dabblers in vintage software are as a bunch of mumble mouths - stingy with their money, Thank You's and other comments.... :)
