How to install Windows 95?

edited December 2004 in Software
For Windows 95 Original (on disks):

I used to know how to do it, but now I can't figure out how to get the files onto the disks. The disks don't have enough space and they crash when I try to make them bigger.

It would also be helpful if it could be installed from a CD?

  • You mean, trying to get the CAB files onto floppies?

    Yes.

My computer can only handle 1.44MB floppy disks. (fail)
  • Did you try formatting them with WinImage so they are 2048 clusters?

  • It worked!

Is it possible to put Windows 95 (original)
    on a CD now?
  • No. I think that was tried by someone here before and it failed out. It's probably hardwired to goto the A:\ drive.

  • Huh? I did that once. It just looks in the same path as your setup file.
  • Err...? Looks like KDog gave me bad info again.

  • all i did for my 95a cd is just dump the cabs and setup files on a cd, works for the most part. occasioanly asks for a cab but i just direct it to the d: and it contines.
  • There is a separate CD version of win95.
  • In one of the INFs (setupp?) is a list of the cabs and the disks. Change them all to disk 1.
  • dont each disk have a file called disk*? or is that NT that does that?
  • you're right bod, all evsions of dos from 5 i think have done that, best just to copy the disk files over and not bother changing the inf files.

Thank you! This should be useful.
  • Don't quote me on that. Look in all of them first.
  • Uh - I looked through the INF's with little success. What should I be looking for?
