...okay So I want SVGA support in Win 3.1 in VMware. So I tried the generic SVGA disk that came from MS. That didnt work. does anyone know what card VMWare emulates?

I don't remember, I think I have it somewhere... but the drivers that VMware comes with should work, they did for me.

No you can't do it in Win3.1 because VmWare emulates a card that does not exist
Use Virtual PC, it emulates S3Trio, then install the drivers.
