Windows 2000 Database server was never meant for retail, it only bundeled with very few huge-ass database server, so there is a possibility the service packs are only given to special registered customers of those special database server (of which there are o a few made).
It does not use a custom kernel. It's just a security and reliability safeguard. Datacenter doesn't let you install SPs unless you're a certified MS engineer, in which case they do special stuff. You can get the patch though.
Really? It seems reasonable that with the 8+ processors and shitloads of memory on the servers that it would use a custom kernel.
