About fidsk /mbr

A while back, I had a Win98 partition that was fucked up by an attempted uninstall. I think the FAT completely b0rked. The root dir was filename intact, but missing a lot of folders, and the folders contained garbage files. So...would fdisk /mbr have done anything good for the situation?

Okey then. Is there anything that could have rebuilt that FAT or was I basically screwed over?

Eh? It was completely fucked up, and as far as I could tell both FATs were.

You could have ran it to check for bad sectors or fragments....

I don't think so. Besides, it might try to overwrite stuff that was there but not in the b0rked FAT (there were LOADS of missing files).

Try running SpinRite.

That's just the physical disk itself, it isn't a FS tool.
