External combi drive

I'm thinking of buying an external 5.25" enclosure and a Combi drive (CD-RW;DVD-ROM) and putting together an external drive for my laptops and driveless computers. My question is that I know usb is backwards compatable etc., but with it being a usb2 enclosure kit, will cds burn ok at usb 1.1 speeds? and will dvd films play ok on usb 1.1?

USB 1.1 is 12 Mbit. That's about 10x. (1x = 150KByte)
