annoying-ass vmware problem

edited February 2005 in Software
So...VMware isn't letting me use more than 100MB of memory in any of my VMs. It doesn't matter which memory usage mode I choose (all in RAM, some swapping, most swapping). It says I need to increase the amount of memory available in all my virtual machines. I really don't get this, since I've got 640MB. Specifically, when I try to run a VM with 256MB of memory, fitting all of it into host RAM:

Not enough physical memory is available to power on this virtual machine. To fix this problem decrease the memory size of this virtual machine to 12 megabytes, increase the amount of physical memory for all virtual machines to 328 megabytes, or adjust the additional memory settings to allow more virtual machine memory to be swapped.
If you were able to power on this virtual machine on this host computer in the past, try rebooting the host computer. Rebooting may allow you to use slightly more host memory to run virtual machines.

  • What version of VMware you using? Maybe there's an update for something like this.

    -Q
  • 4.5.2. I might go back to 3.0, it worked perfectly for me (and let me give a VM half the system memory when I was on 128).
  • What is/was 3 like compared to 4.5.2?

    -Q
  • Definitely fewer restrictions.
  • I was looking at this tpoic...it seems that other people have this problem...I think I'll continue using 3.0. Unless, of course, MS VPC is faster than Connectix VPC...
