Use Compaq Expansion Memory in Toshiba?

I have some memory from an old Compaq that broke down. I want to put it in my Toshiba laptop but it won't recognize it. I know that it's a different name so that would probably play a factor (the same thing happened with an HD replacement). Is there anyway to override the brand factor so I can use that old memory chip (seeing as it fits)?

Do you have the specs for the memory and the laptop? I know that sounds lame, but there might be something there.

The Compaq had 64 MB of RAM in it, not 32.

Hmm, the Compaq's was non-ECC EDO and the Toshiba takes SDRAM. That looks suspicious to me, but I don't know memory that well.

ECC RAM is a Ram feature. You can't mix them, and FYI ECC can be SDRAM (if I didn't mention it already)

You can put non-ECC into ECC slots, but not the other way around.

At least that's how it worked on my old PII mobo.

If you're referring to my post, I meant to say that EDO isn't compatible with SDRAM. My fault.
