  • What OS is this (I'm assuming Windows, but what version)?

    What exactly was the codec?

    -Q
  • Windows Xp Home Sp2
I rolled back to codec version 5.10.0.5840 (4/20/05) from the latest codec (A3.98)
( The version originally shipped with this HP )
    But the same thing happened.

So i actually try to play one of these midi Sequences through Wmp 11
    with the game still running.
And now the game music overlaps with that midi file but when i stop the midi file playing in wmp the game music stops
    wtf? :?: :!:

it might be wmp's fault maybe i should have not updated to wmp 11.
    DAMN M$

  • Hello! I have the VIA VT1612A @ VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller PCI (On-Board), I installed The Realtec ones, they caused many problems with the sound of my machine :(

But one day I installed the Via Vinyl Audio Drivers, and the On-Board sound card worked well :) (from VIAarena.com). So I think that you must try the Via Vinyl Audio Drivers. Give them a try :); direct link to more info and download page: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?Pa ... bCatID=105

But before doing that please verify if these chipset names corresponds to your sound card: :D

    VIA AC97 codec incorporated into VT82C686A/B South Bridges ( VT82C686A VT82C686B )
    VIA AC97 codecs incorporated into VT8233, VT8233A, VT8233C, VT8235 and VT8237/R South Bridges ( VT8237 VT8235 VT8233/A/C VT8235CE VT8233/VT8233A/VT8233B/VT8235/VT8237 VT1612A )
    VIA Vinyl audio codecs: VT1612A VT1613 VT1616 VT1617 VT1618 ( VT1616 VT1612A VT1617 VT1613 )

    VIA AC97 codec incorporated into VT8251 South Bridge ( VT8251 )

  • I'm thinking it's more of a wmp problem than a sound board one now.
    thanks anyway.

@Fedevista : I know for sure that it's the Realtek one as the original driver
    says Realtek AC97 audio controller.

PS: The old games i am trying to play are :

    Sim City Classic For Windows
    &
    Sim City 2000 SE.

I think those old games only work with SB series and a few many cards that the games supports. Try configuring the sound card in the config. program of these games :)

I've had those games playing on my computer, with the same chipset. Get ur drivers from ViaArena.com, as Fedevista said.
  • always use the trusted sites for updates. I screwed up an entire mobo by downlaoding a flash from some random site.
