Is my computer going down the toilet?

edited March 2007 in Hardware
I wake up this morning, my BIOS screen is up...

"Detecting VIA RAID Array.....press tab for setup"

I noticed my keyboard was non responsive!

So I have to HARD reboot the system, and after it clears my BIOS screens, it reboots. My keyboard still does not work(so I cannot enter BIOS)

I try a different keyboard, same thing, now I am thinking, WTF it's dead.

It finally boots up XP, my mouse works, but the keyboard was still dead, so I could not log in.
After a few restarts, for some reason it starts working normally.

I really thought my Motherboard was fubared.

Why did my Comptuer do this?

  • no idea. Computers are mysterious things even though us humans created aevery bit of it. a story of my own experience: My com kept ahving a Hfs+ partiotion error when i tried booting into the osx drive. It displayed HFS + PARTITION ERROR so i went to get my gnome cd, i turned around and the system had booted into osx. I was like wtf?!?!

I'm in agreement with you :)

PC'S can be sometimes mysterious :) try with other keyboard :)
  • Is this a PS/2 keyboard or a USB keyboard?

If you tried both keyboards with PS/2, chances are the PS/2 port is bad. If both were USB, then you might want to try looking for PCI USB Card.
  • PS/2

So if my PS/2 port goes out again, can I just plug in a USB keyboard and be able to use it without installing any special drivers?
  • Yep. Every os has drivers for usb keybrd/mice.
  • DOS doesn't :P... at least not without usning bios emulation.
  • I suspect he intended to mean "Every modern OS", or something similar.

That, or I don't if they make these, but a PS/2 to USB switcher. I know they make em the other way around though.
