How to disable auto update in Acrobat Reader 8?

edited April 2007 in Software
First off let me say yes I could get foxit reader but can't be bothered. (I have a copy somewhere I think anyway).

Right I just wish to know where it is to stop any form of auto update. I have disabeld what I can see. But every so often it will try and update and show's an icon in my sytemtray. I just want to stop any of that crap completely. In V5 and 6 it was easy to disable, but I think V7 did this to me as well.

  • Run "Check for updates" under Help and when it displays the results, there should be a "Preferences" link. Click that and then uncheck the "Automatically check for Adobe updates".

  • Thanks Q problem solved. As I say in the earlier versions changing the settings in the prefrences stopped any updating but this one had me a bit stumped as to why it still was.
  • They did do a good job of hiding it in an unlikely place.
