Microsoft OS/2

edited April 2007 in Software
I'm wondering if anyone here has Microsoft OS/2? From what I understand it was a version of OS/2, created by Microsoft, with the Windows 3.x interface. It looks pretty interesting, but I can't find much more information about it.

Here are a few screenshots I found of version 1.3:

Thanks.

  • I have it, but have never attempted to install it.

PS. Shouldn't this be somewhere else? It's DEFINITELY abandoned.

    Okay.

I just wanted to be on the safe side, so I posted this here.
  • Moved.

Anyway, I've placed it on my FTP in the logical place.

  • I have a copy of it I think, I never tried to install it.
  • Whats up with the sudden boost in popularity with OS/2 all of a sudden?
  • Brownian motion of the OS collector's minds.

  • You think OS/2 has a special frequency? lol

I think people are sick of Windows as an exploration experience, they work fine and are packaged well having been built by a complex team of well paid programmers.

Linux is fine for discovery, but few of the packages are worthwhile and the learning curve to get ti done right is high for many.

Os/2 though.... nicely designed, very capable, well supported by big blue in it's day.... the undiscovered country.....

like picking a redhead to take home that night when the blondes and brunettes seem bland
  • That's a rather interesting analogy.

  • Indeed.

I've always been somewhat interested in OS/2, it's kind of cool to see what pre-dates NT and what it became when MS left.
  • i also have os/2 made by ms and i installed it on my 486dx4 100mhz
    and it runs good

Since you have successfully installed it, where do I get a boot disk to start the setup process of a standard OS/2 installation?

  • As long as it's abandonware shoudn't is be ok?
  • I have isntalled Warp4 on a dual boot with NT4 (I think can't quite remember) The specs were 128 meg ram and I think a 166mhz proc. Drivers not installed for gfx though as I wasn't bothered. I think I still have it installed. I can't remember as the pc is in a bin-liner under my bed and I haven't used it in ages:P
  • by the way i found out you can get ms OS/2 from www.vetusware.com
go to OS then find OS/2 1.30.1 and download that
  • I downloaded windows 98se from vetusware. It had a .txt file stating that it was from Winworld and should not be uploaded anywhere else.
  • lol yet again?

  • So back on track. Is the extended support for Warp 5 already over ?
  • "Warp 5", if you mean eComStation, is still being sold!

    -Q
  • No. The official OS/2 WARP 5 by IBM.
  • I don't think it went beyond Warp 4 (4.52 according to Wikipedia).
