POS Server

I just acquired this massively heavy and unnecessarily sized 4U PIII server yesterday. It's got a slot based 800 MHz with 4GB of ECC PC133.

It came with 9 GB SCSI drives but I threw in a couple of 150 GB drives and did a Raid 1. Debian is installing in the background.

Anyone got spare SCSI drives? Freaking 150 GBs are $60 a pop.

  • Have you regained your hearing yet?
  • Spend enough time in a server room and any other room seems too quiet.

I lost it many eons ago.

When one moves from closet to headend their ridiculous need for quietness goes out the door.
  • this reminds me why all my shit is 1u :>
  • Lol, beggars can't be choosers.
  • What a beast! How much does that sucker weight??? I would guess around 50 lbs or so. Just curious not that I will ever need or have any use for anything like that.

When you said POS are you talking a Point of Sale server or are you referring to the other POS???
  • Piece of shit. It's like 10 years old. It will get the job done though once I get someone to help me rack it (about 70lbs total) and get it assigned an IP. I'll be using it as a LAMP platform for testing some DOCSIS interfacing programs since apparently Debian doesn't like Hyper-v.
