Explorer.exe crash resolution for IE9 users (Vista and up)

edited August 2011 in Software
Hello everyone,
If your computer crashes from the explorer.exe with a fault ntdll.dll and if you have Microsoft(r) Internet Explorer 9 installed on Vista, 7, Server 2008, and/or Server 2008 R2, then you are in luck.

First, open up Internet Explorer 9, go to Tools and click on Internet Options. Then, click on the Advanced tab. The first check box on the list should display "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering*" under the Accelerated Graphics topic. Tick the check box, click Apply and click OK.

*restart Internet Explorer for applying changes.
This should fix the error. Either that or boot into Safe Mode by restarting your machine, the right way, press [F8] until the Advanced Options screen shows up. For those who have a PC that uses F8 for Boot Options, wait until the Boot from CD: goes away and hit the dang [F8] key 5 times. Then, select Safe Mode to uninstall Internet Explorer 9.

Go to Start > Control Panel (or go to Start > Run, and type in appwiz.cpl)
Under the Programs category, click on Uninstall Programs*, click on View Installed Updates, locate the Internet Exploter 9 program, and click Uninstall. After that, restart your computer the right way, and your troubles will all fade away.
*if you have the Control Panel set to either Small Icons or Large Icons, the Contol Panel should display Programs and Features
