edited April 2012 in Hardware
When i got the pc, every other boot would give me this message:
*somethin' about invalid memory*
Decreasing memory
Memory has changed

  • one of the sticks is probably bad. boot with a single stick until you rule out the culprit
  • I tried that, got cut, sweared a lot, put both sticks back in (until some fresh RAM comes in).

BTW I bought the CPU adapter from the link in another post in another thread (I thought the seller had enough positive feedback). I got it in the mail today. Thank you to all members for the link.

EDIT: How the hell could I get cut by a ram stick!?
  • A cut on the chassis perhaps? My hands get cut up all the time from working inside servers and with the racking aspects at work; get used to it. Did the error replicate with a boot with each single stick alone?
  • no, but now i need to downgrade from xp to 2k for the time being.

XP ran fast with both sticks in. I do plan on buying more ram from tigerdirect. I found some that are compatible.

But the odd thing was it only happened every 2nd boot.
