Weird windows 2000 error

edited April 2012 in Software
Ok, so I installed windows 2000 today on my old hp verctra.... the installation went perfectly... and the system booted up perfectly too. The issues were met when i restarted my system and was met with this.... The system sort of hangs, though the startup jingle plays. I 'm really confused.... and I can't find anything about this problem on the internet.

  • You restarted the system and saw a startup logo? How strange and unusual.

Seriously though, unless I'm missing something, your picture doesn't tell us anything.
  • Possibly a graphics driver issue? The startup screen is shown before your graphics driver is loaded (it's done via a very generic SVGA output). Since they did mention the startup sound was heard, sounds like the driver's not outputting correctly.
  • So the next question is, can you boot into safe mode?
  • Hey all... I have just tried it and safe mode works perfectly. Graphics driver issue seems most likely here...
  • then your next step, I suppose, would be to remove the VGA adapter from device manager, if applicable. What's the video card (is it discrete or integrated)? I noticed that some integrated chipsets can cause weird problems, i.e., being recognized as "VgaSave" in Device Manager as opposed to an actual GPU... on a particular machine I could get it to be recognized correctly by removing the "CPU to AGP bridge" component in Device Manager, it would last for one boot, which was sort of painful when testing multiple driver revisions.
