Mac OS 9.1 always wants to DSError(102) under SheepShaver

First, unmodified Mac OS 9.1, which wants to DSError(102) as soon as SheepShaver loads it.

I tried quite a bit of hacking. I replaced the boot ID = 2, gbly ID = -16385, and krnl ID = 0 resources in System 9.1 with the ones from the System 9.0 and copied PowerPC Enabler 9.0.4 to the Mac OS 9.1 System Folder. Mac OS 9.1 then loaded its splash screen, but wanted to DSError(102) immediately after.

This time, DSError displayed the bomb screen, which told me a tip instead of just telling me that this is impossible like the circled hand did. I followed the tip, but Mac OS 9.1 still wants to DSError(102) just after the splash screen and the bomb screen told me that same tip even though I already followed that tip.

  • Pretty sure 9.04 is the newest version Sheepshaver supports..
  • You can't run Mac OS 9.1 and 9.2 on SheepShaver. A fully and complete MMU emulation is needed to run 9.1 and 9.2. As for now, you're pretty much out of luck, unless MMU emulation is complete.
