Confusingly, the much later Windows 3.0 release of "PC Paintbrush for Windows" has its version number reset back to 1.00, so it is difficult to search for information on it.

That's really interesting. I'm thinking Microsoft bought that to make Paintbrush for Windows 3.0.

Yes, Windows Paintbrush is based on ZSoft Paintbrush - and from the looks of it, this version has more in common with it than the DOS versions or the later SoftKey/WordStar International versions.
