What do I run old Mac OSes on?

edited July 2013 in Software
I downloaded an old Mac OS file, but it doesn't seem to want to work with Virtualbox. I just get this interactive shell UEFI thing. Do I need to be using a special emulator? Thanks.

Which version of Mac OS did you download? Any versions of Mac OS on Winworld run either on Motorola 68k or PowerPC machines, none of which are compatible with Virtualbox. Virtualbox uses the x86 architecture.
For 68k Machines, the Basilisk II emulator will be your best bet. For any of the newer Mac OS (over 7.5.2 to OS 9), you should use Sheepshaver. You need to find a rom online. Those are easily found with any search engine.
  • Thanks. I wasn't sure.
