Regarding my Wifi card.

edited September 2013 in Hardware
Recently my wifi card has lost it's touch. It's randomly shutting off, can't get much of a signal from my router in the same house. Did I do something wrong here? Oh yeah here's my specs too (well not all of them, just what you might need)

HP Pavilion dv5023ea
Broadcom BCM4318

It's an old one too. Can somebody help out with what this card is doing? Thanks in advance for the assistance :)

  • Well there's your problem, it's a broadcom. :P

Seriously though, if your wireless card is dying, buy a new one. Do you have other wireless devices that connect to that router? So you can be sure that it's the wireless card and not the router that's giving up the ghost.

As for replacements go, you could get a nice USB or ExpressCard wireless adapter and just disable the internal card. Or if you're feeling adventurous, you could replace the internal card. I would test with a USB / ExpressCard first though.

Also, have you tried other OS's? Just to make sure it's not a driver issue.
  • Maybe your neighbor's signal is overpowering yours? Use a tool like inSSIDer or Wifi Analyzer to see if there's a conflict.
  • There is no wifi in a 100 ft radius of my own. And my wii can also connect to the wifi fine.

I might try a different card.
  • Yeah I would get a new card. Just from experience
