MS Security Essentials Error when running XP

edited June 2014 in Software
I got out my old Dimension 4550 with windows xp on it and it had tons of updates on it. so i updated it and Microsoft Security Essentials popup after restarting it and told me after April 14 Microsoft Security Essentials won't be working on a unsupported operating system and my may get virus's and i should upgrade to windows 8.1. I just have to find a other free anti-virus program.

  • If only there were tonnes of free antivirus programmes out there.
  • i going to use free clam anti-virus. I use it on all my old windows.
  • The latest build of security essentials that works on XP is 4.4.304.0, upgrading it will stop it working, Iv'e had to uninstall it a few times now on friends computers & reinstall the 4.4.304.0 build, as long as you only update the definitions, it'll still be supported til the middle of next year from what Iv'e read on various forums...
Just disable Autoupdate before reinstalling the 4.4.304.0 build, otherwise you'll just keep getting updated to a non working build...
Autoupdates are useless now as there's no chance of getting any anyway...
