  • Hello

I hope someone can help me with my Thinkpad :)

I do not know what DOS I should take for my Thinkpad 700 PS/2.
Does somebody know what DOS I should install?
It should be a DOS that works

    Thanks
  • Typically on older hardware (that isn't older than 386 based), I use DOS 6.22 or PC-DOS 2000. If I recall, those guys had a 486 in them with 4-8MB of ram, so either of the versions I mentioned should work perfectly. You should be able to run Windows 3.11 on top of that too if you wanted.

Also, those older IBM machines had excellent repair/troubleshooting guides for their hardware too.
  • Are you looking for something age appropriate or just the newest version of DOS that it can run?
  • Post split from "Your Oldest Machine Running" thread, and merged with the duplicate thread which you made about this already.

It looks like the Thinkpad 700 is just a standard 486 processor. So, there would not be any limitation as to which version of MS-DOS you could run on it. Is that what you meant, or were you asking whether FreeDOS etc would work?
  • Thank you for jour quick answers!

I will check some of the old floppy discs with Windows.

  • Absolutely MS-DOS 6.22. My IBM PC runs it and works properly.
