Support Request, Split From: New Serials Compilation

edited July 2014 in Software
Hi. I've tried using this serial:

Windows 2000 Professional SP4

With this iso:

(Windows server 200 sp4)

in Virtualbox, and it tells me it's an invalid serial.
Can someone tell me if I'm using the wrong serial, if the serial is bad?

Has anyone else had problems installing Windows 2000 (and only windows 2000) in Virtualbox? I can never get past the serial stage, no matter what (even when using an cd and looking at the number on the case).
The host I'm using is a newer computer, I think that might be the problem?

  • I used that exact key on my W2K VM and it worked fine. Check to see if you actually typed it correctly.
  • W2K Pro serials don't work on W2K Server. You also can't use e.g. Windows XP Home serials on XP Pro.

Good catch. This is probably the reason the original poster is having difficulties.
  • Owow. Didn't see that there. Totally my bad.

Hi, I'm the OP -it's possible that this is the problem, but I've also had this experience with "known good" iso files on my hd which I've used to make other virtual machines with in the past. I suspect it has something to do with newer CPUs not interacting with Virtualbox and VMWare the way that older ones did, or maybe they changed the emulation somehow -or maybe I am consistently mixing up my serials. ;)

It's not a huge deal because I've only had it affect one operating system (windows 2000); NT4, XP and Windows 7 all install just fine.
  • I've used that very serial to install Win2000 Pro SP4 several times in the past without a problem. Although I have never tried Win2000 Server I would go with what everyone else has already said.
  • I never figured out what serial to use with server sp4, but I was able to install windows 2000 pro with one of the serials in the thread so it all worked out. Thanks for y'alls time. :)
