Yes, i think it is true that using the command line typing long arguments to launch systems is a bit complicated. In the current svn status progress has ben made renewing the internal ui.

I have used MESS long ago. I used the version that are posted on toastytech for emulating VisiOn. That MESS version was has a GUI. But why the MESS developers don't develop the GUI now? may be for porting issues?
Well we can consider de minimal internal GUI wich is somewhat usable. pressing TAB brings it to front, and then you can load floopy images into your emulated machine while running, or select all the slot components your system should have (Soundblaster, S3virge, NE2000, you choose from the list).
I agree that its internal GUI should be improved, however is better than it was last year.
