Commander Keen

edited September 2014 in Software
If anyone played this old DOS side scrolling adventure game ages ago, One of the games is now opensource like Enemy Territory (I suggest using the more modern compiled ET-Legacy) and the original SimCity.
Looks like you can compile it using Borland C++ 3 possibly, I might give it a try to see how it runs. If anyone beats me to it this weekend, let me know if it actually compiles and runs.
Anyways, who played this series before? It's one I had the shareware version of ages ago and played that all the way nearly to the end but never quite beat it. Always got eaten by giant fish in one of the stages and gave up. I forget which episode this was and the disk I had it on in question has since vanished.

  • No, I have never played Commander Keen, but for some odd reason it feels like I've heard about it.

I wonder how similar the Keen Dreams code is to the Ep 4/5/6 series code. It was kind of an intermediate between the earlier Ep 1/2/3 series and the later ones.

Keen was an awesome program for the day. It ran decently on an 8088 machine, and even had CGA versions.

I managed to run Keen 4c on an IBM 5150 clone with only dual 360k floppy drives.
  • I've played them all. I had all of them on my old IBM AT back in the day.
