Windows 1.01 installation order.

edited September 2014 in Software
Hello,

I downloaded the Windows 1.0 floppy images for zenith computers however I do not know in what order to install them, as they are labeled "setup" "apps" "build" "fonts" "printers". and not "1", "2" etc..

Can anyone help me figure out what images should be put into the drive in what order upon installation of windows 1.01?

thanks.

  • Hi,

I downloaded the windows 1.01 images for zenith machines however I do not know what image and soon to be floppy should be used in what order as they are labled, "apps", "build", "Setup", "fonts" and "printer". and not "disk 1", "disk 2" etc.

Does anyone know which image or floppy should be used in what order?

    Thanks.
  • The Windows setup program will ask for each disk by name. That is how the actual disks were labeled, not numbered.

If you are using a VM or have a large enough hard drive, just copy the contents of all of the disks in to a directory like c:\inst then use the command SUBST A: C:\INST, and run setup from the substituted folder.

Also, don't forget that DOS 5.0 and higher require SETVER with WIN100.BIN set to report DOS version 3.40. And if you want PS/2 mouse support, replace the MOUSE.DRV with the one from Windows 2.03 before installing.

Thanks however ps/2 mouse support would he usless since I have a zenith zzwl-183-92 which only has serial ports, also there is 5mb left on the hard drive. it has 640k so it can do windows 2.x but not hgood as there would only be like 140k ram left.

Thanks for the answer, I'll try the hard drive folder method, only when the installation is done, can I delete folder"
