PFS:File from Software Publshing Corporation (SPC) was one of the early common products sold alongside the IBM PC.

PFS:File is based on Professional Filing System (PFS) for the Apple II. PFS was SPC's very first product, and the abbreviation became the moniker representing their product suite. The product was later merged with the PFS:Reports companion product, and became PFS:Professional File. IBM also rebranded PFS:File as "IBM Filing Assistant".

This version is an IBM branded OEM release. There was at least one other slightly different release of PFS:File version 1.00.

PFS:File 1.00 is a simple flat-file database. When you create a new file, it starts you off in a blank form designer where you simply type your desired field labels and it does the rest.

Once a file is created, you add or modify records (which it calls "forms") in an entry screen based on the form you created. There are a few other things you can do such as sorting, searching, splitting, merging, and printing.

This program was designed to run on PC-DOS 1.0 and run on an IBM PC with 64K. Only one floppy drive is required, but two are recommended. It runs well in dosbox.

Unsurprisingly, this is one of those programs where you must often refer to the manual. Fortunately for you, I have provided a PDF manual!

    Thanks.

But the image seems to be different from each other.

IMG / IMD --> each same
TC / CP2 --> each same (But the range of Track 5 seems to be different from IMG/IMD)

    *IMG/IMD (Cracked image)
    Track 5 : 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8

    *TC/CP2 (Copy protected image)
    Track 5 : 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 2 / 6 / 7

Copy protected image works on PCE well.

To run on PCE, you must convert TC or CP2 image to PSI image by using PSI.EXE on PCE

    (TC)
    psi pfsfile.tc pfsfile.psi

    (CP2)
    psi pfsfile.cp2 -h 1 -p delete pfsfile.psi
    psi pfsfile.psi -c 40 -p delete pfsfile.psi

    SHA1:150cd2fb66f9579c896a5d0efe4937f1be68df98 / pfsfile.psi
  • Glad you like it.

Yes, as the readme states: This product contains copy protection. For your convenience, an unprotect has been applied to the raw disk image, Imagedisk disk image, and the files folder.

The details of the unprotect are documented in the Unprotect folder.

From my own experience, it is best to provide as many archive formats as possible, and everything needed to run the software when possible.

BTW, the unprotect document also describes a second, slightly different, 1.00 release. This may be the non-IBM OEM version or an earlier batch, either way it would be good to add that one too if it ever surfaced.
